No matter what model of Samsung refrigerator you have, eventually, you will need to replace your refrigerator filter. Most filters will last at least six months or about 500 gallons depending on how often you dispense water and the amount of contaminants in your city water.
The main reason why refrigerators have water filters is to remove contaminants from tap water such as lead, mercury, benzene, asbestos, particulates, chlorine, cysts, P-Dichlorobenzene, and carbofuran. Samsung water filters do not remove fluoride from the water, which is something you want to have. Contaminants in the regular tap water may be harmful and depending on the quality of your city’s water, it will generally taste much better when filtered.
Refrigerator filters are designed to purify the tap water eliminating the need to purchase bottled water or risk the hazards of certain contaminants. The up-front cost of a refrigerator filter will actually save you money in the long run.
A fairly accurate way of telling if your water filter needs replacement is if the water pressure begins to drop noticeably or the water does not taste as pure as it did previously. Many people mark their calendar for six months from the date of installing the new filter (most new filters include monthly stickers you can place on the filter itself to remind you), but if you have a large family, you may need to change out your refrigerator filter prior to six months.
